La Biennale di Venezia was founded in 1895 as an international art exhibition. It is currently one of the most famous and prestigious cultural organizations in the world. La Biennale aims to disseminate and promote contemporary art through exhibitions and research of all artistic disciplines: visual arts, architecture, cinema, dance, music and theater.
In 2007, during the 52nd edition of the Art Exhibition, Mexico participated with an official pavilion with the representation of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. Since then, the Mexican Ministry of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) are responsable for managing the participation of Mexico at the Biennale. In the successive editions, the Pavilion had the collaboration of diverse artists: Teresa Margolles in 2009, Melanie Smith in 2011, Ariel Guzik in 2013, Tania Candiani & Luis Felipe Ortega in 2015 and Carlos Amorales in the edition of 2017.
